Bangladesh Protest Sheikh Hasina Flees to India

In Recent protests in Bangladesh have led to significant political turmoil, culminating in the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The protests, which began over government job quotas, escalated into widespread violence and chaos. The situation reached a critical point on August 5, 2024, when Hasina resigned after protesters stormed her official residence and other key government buildings in Dhaka. The military has since taken control, with Army Chief Waker-Uz-Zaman announcing the formation of an interim government​.

The unrest has resulted in hundreds of deaths over the past few weeks, and significant property damage, including the burning of the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum and statues of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh’s founding father and Hasina’s father​ .In response to the escalating violence, security has been heightened along the India-Bangladesh border, and Hasina has reportedly fled to India, where she is expected to seek asylum​.

 

 

The situation remains tense, with many in Bangladesh uncertain about the future as the interim government begins to take shape under military oversight​.

Hindu Temples are also demolished by the protestors and destroying the Statue of Sheikh Mujeb-ul Rehman .Mass looting broke out at the official residence of the Bangladeshi Prime Minister as she fled to India amid intense rioting and protests. As Sheikh Hasina flew to neighbouring India, protestors reportedly barged into her residence by the thousands, and carried away many items.
